Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
This corona virus pandemic is nothing else, mother earth is
returning us what we did with her and trying to heal herself. Now it's our duty to take one step forward and not pollute her further.
We the children of mother earth can take a pledge to ensure that we will not use plastic bags.
We can make some cloth bags from old sofa cover, torn t-shirts, towels, bed sheets etc. which will not harm the nature at all.
We the children of mother earth can take a pledge to ensure that we will not use plastic bags.
We can make some cloth bags from old sofa cover, torn t-shirts, towels, bed sheets etc. which will not harm the nature at all.
- Old t-shirt
- Sharp scissors, preferably fabric scissors
Direction
Step 1: Cut the sleeves off
If you’d like to fold the t-shirt in half you can cut both sleeves at once so that they are identical.
Step 2: Cut the neckline area
If you’d like, you can turn the shirt inside out and trace the outline of a bowl before cutting.
Step 3: Determine how deep you want the bag to be.
If you haven’t already turned your t-shirt inside out, do it now. Determine where you want the bottom of the bag to be and trace a line across.
Step 4: Cut fringe
Now grab your scissors and cut slits from the bottom of the shirt up to the line marking the bottom of your bag. You’ll want to cut both the front and back layers. I cut my slits about 3/4 to 1 inch apart.
Step 5: Tie Fringe
Take your first pair of fringe and tie it into a knot, then tie two more pairs. Now if you lift your bag you’ll see that although the pairs are pulling the bag together, there’s a hole between each pair. this next step will close hose holes.
Now grab one strand from the middle set (the one with the arrow pointing left) and tie it in a knot with one of the strands on the left set. Then I take the other strand from the middle set (the one with the arrow pointing right) and tie it in a knot with one of the strands on the right set.
Then I take the remaining strand on the right set and tie it to the next set of strands, and so on and so forth until all the strands are tied. Now turn your t-shirt right side out again and you’re done!😊

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Old cushion/pillow cover with zippered side.
- For straps: Strong fabric 2 x 10 cm x 58 cm (4″x 22″) pieces
- Fabric scraps in your choice of colors for applique
- Sewing machine
- General sewing supplies
- Cut the zip off your cushion cover.
- The seams of this cover were unfinished so I’ve cut off excess fabric to help reduce the bulk when sewing in french seams.
- If you want to use the outside design of your cushion cover, go straight to step 5.
- Turn cushion cover right side out and sew a 1 cm seam (1/2″) along dotted line.
- Cut two pieces of strong fabric (I’ve used a piece from an old denim skirt) 10 cm x 58 cm (4″x 22″)
- Fold in half lengthwise (the right side in) and sew along dotted line. Turn inside out.
- Press and stitch the top
- Pin straps to desired position on the outside of bag facing down.
- Stitch in place to hold.
- Turn bag inside-out and press a hem of about 1 cm (1/2″) on the top edge (this should make the handles face up now).
- Roll over a hem about 2 cm (1″) wide and press (handles should face down now.
- Pin handles to face up.
- Stitch 2 x seams.
